van der Waals Equation
An equation for non-ideal gasses that accounts for intermolecular attraction and the volumes occupied by the gas molecules.
- Equation of state:

- Critical point:

- Reduced equation of state:

- where
- p = Pressure
- Vm = Molar volume
- R = Molar gas constant
- T = Temperature
- a, b = van der Waal's constants
- Tc = Critical temperature
- pc = Critical pressure
- Vmc = Critical molar volume
- pr = p/pc
- Vr = Vm/Vmc
- Tr = T/Tc
- Vm = Molar volume
a and b are usually found experimentally for a particular gas.
