Structural Modification

Mathematically determining the effect of changing the mass, stiffness, or damping of a structure and determining its new modal parameters.

A modal analysis provides, in essence, a mathematical model of the structure. This model can be manipulated to determine the effect of modifications to the structure. The modal model can be generated either experimentally or using a finite element program.
