Spirit Level

A tool for testing if a surface is level (or vertical)

A curved sealed glass vial contains a liquid and a bubble of air. When the is centred in the vial, normally between marks, the surface is flat. The glass bubbles are located parallel to or at rightangles to the body of the level to give horizontal or vertical readings.
