Sound Waves

Sound waves can be thought of like the waves in water. Frequency determines the length of the waves; amplitude or volume determines the height of the waves. At 20Hz and where the speed of sound is 340ms-1 the wavelength is 17 metres. It should be noted that sound waves are longitudinal waves ie the vibrations of the medium are parallel to the direction the wave is moving.
