Random Vibration

A vibration whose instantaneous magnitude is not specified for any given instant of time. The instantaneous magnitudes of a random vibration are specified only by probability distribution functions giving the probable fraction of the total time that the magnitude (or some sequence of magnitudes) lies within a specified range. Random vibration contains no periodic or quasi-periodic constituents. If random vibration has instantaneous magnitudes that occur according to the Gaussian distribution, it is called "Gaussian Random Vibration".
