Power Stroke

The working stroke of a piston.

As the piston approaches top dead centre the fuel-air mix is ignited.

The fuel-air mix ignites and expands, as it expands it forces the piston down.

As the piston is forced down this force is applied through the conrod to the crank and is transformed into a rotation of the crank.

The combustion and expansion is complete at the end of the Power Stroke, at bottom dead centre.
