Phase Velocity

The velocity with which planes of equal phase, crests or troughs, progress through the medium.
where
vp = phase velocity [ms-1]
ω = angular frequency [rads-1]
k = wavenumber [m-1]
f = frequency [Hz]
λ = wavelength [m]

In both dispersive and non-dispersive media the wave velocity for sinusoidal waves of a particular frequency is termed the phase velocity.
