Non-Metal

A term usually reserved for those chemical elements that are very poor electrical conductors in the solid state and liquid states. A number of them are gases at room temperature. When solid or liquid, they tend to have a matt rather than a lustrous appearance. Non-metals gain electrons easily to form anions. About 20% of the known chemical elements are non-metals.
