Nickel Iron Battery
Cathodes of nickel-oxide and anodes of iron in a potassium hydroxide solution.
Also known as the Edison Battery as it was invented by Thomas Edison in 1901.
Advantages:
- high energy density
- Long life
- Able to withstand vibration
- Withstand high temperatures
Disadvantages:
- High cost and high self-discharge rate
Have long been used mining operations because of their ability to withstand vibrations, high temperatures and other physical stress.
