Nautical Mile
The average distance on the earth's surface subtended by one minute of latitude. The International nautical mile (used by the Admiralty and most other nations) is 1852m (~6076ft 1inch).
Maps were drawn to follow this standard and world aviation standards still use the nautical mile.
