Montgolfier, Joseph (1740-1810)
Joseph and brother Jacques made the first successful hot-air balloon flight in 1782.
Historical Notes
- December 1782 The first balloon was launched and ascended to an altitude of 300m. The balloon was made of paper and used air heated by burning wool and moist straw.
- 19 September 1783 The first passengers in a hot-air balloon were a rooster, a sheep, and a duck sent to an altitude of 500m and survived the landing.
- 21 November 1783 The Montgolfier brothers make the first flight in a hot air balloon.
