About Us

We are a small consultancy formed from a group of people with very different skills in engineering, physics and software engineering. The encyclopedia was created so that we could store and share information that we need on a daily basis. After a number of years of using the database (the cd version that is) we decided that we should see if it was of use to others. This encyclopedia has been built based on what we need and so there are a number of topics missing or not covered in enough depth, however, our local working version gets updated every day with more information and data and we plan to upload this to the website once a month.

A to Z Navigation

Click on the first letter of the word you are looking for on the A to Z menu in the top bar. This will list all words starting with that letter.

top

Books

On some pages we have added references to books and placed a link through to Amazon.co.uk that allows you to read more about the book in question.

All of the books that are referenced are listed by subject and linked through to Amazon.co.uk from the Books page.

Calculations

The calculations are there for those quick checks to make sure you're in the right ball park. Throw the results to the clipboard and start again or throw the result from the clipboard into another calculation.

top

Clipboard

Wherever you see the clipboard symbol you can click to place data on the clipboard. An excellent way to note values that you want to keep for a later calculation or to note all of the values used in a calculation for later reference. Simply double click a value on the clipboard to highlight it and then drag it into the entry box of another calculation. The calculator has the clipboard function enabled so that you can record your own calculations.

Also: if you want to get back to a page from the clipboard just click on the title.

Note: clipboard values will be lost if you close the window they are in. It is possible to save a particular clipboard by right clicking in the clipboard window and viewing the source of the file. This can then be saved.
N.B. Netscape/Mozilla Users: Right Click and select Stop prior to viewing source. This is necessary to close the HTML document which is usually left open for the addition of new data.

Comments

The "My Links" function which appears on the bottom of every topic page allows a user to add their own links associated with that topic to the page. This is achieved by the use of Cookies and Javascript. Therefore if you wish to use this functionality it is necessary to enable the use of Cookies in your browser.

Note: If the cookies on your browser are cleared then your personal links will also be cleared. This also increases the complexity of taking ones personal links with them from machine to machine. Dirac Delta Consultants are working on procedure which will allow this to be done with ease.

View Link Network

This function finds all of the topics that the topic page you are currently viewing links to and those that link to it. If this is less than 20 links it then finds the topics that link to those topics. The link matrix is then displayed and in realtime the relative position of the links is optimised so that those closest to the centre are most relevant. Clicking on one of the topics will paste that topic page back into the main window.

Note that as this is optimised each time the routine is called there may be a slightly different layout of links each time.
