Global Warming Potential

A measure of how much a given mass of greenhouse gas is estimated to contribute to global warming relative to the same mass of Carbon Dioxide.

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) 1
Methane (CH4) 23
Nitrous Oxide (N2O) 296
HFC-134a 1300
Tetrafluoromethane (CF4) 5700
Trifluoromethane (HFC-23) 12000
Sulphur Hexafluoride (SF6) 22200

This index approximates the time-integrated warming effect of a unit mass of a given greenhouse gas in today’s atmosphere, relative to that of carbon dioxide.
