Farad

The SI unit of capacitance. A capacitance of 1 farad is defined as a capacitor that carries a charge of 1 coulomb when a potential difference of 1 volt is applied across it.

Dimension: M-1L-2T4I2

1 F = 1 kg-1m-2s4A2

microfarad (µF)

A common unit of electric capacitance equal to 10-6 farad.

millifarad (mF)

A common unit of electric capacitance equal to 0.001 farad.

nanofarad (nF)

A common metric unit of electric capacitance equal to 10-9 farad.

This unit was previously called the millimicrofarad (mµF).

picofarad (pF)

A common unit of electric capacitance equal to 10-12 farad.

An informal name sometimes used for pF is a puff.

An older name for the picofarad was the micromicrofarad (µµF or mmfd)
