Equivalent Rectangular Bandwidth

This is the effective bandwidth of an auditory filter.

The ERB number z is the number of ERB’s above 0Hz and is the Cambridge equivalent to the Bark scale of critical band rate.

ERB is used by the Cambridge School (Moore). Note that ERB’s are narrower than Bark’s with 38 in the complete hearing range as compare to 24 in the Bark range.
