Enthalpy of Fusion

The enthalpy change that occurs to melt a solid at its melting point.

The kinetic energy of the molecules remains the same, the latent heat is used to overcome the potential energy of the intermolecular forces.

Enthalpies of fusion are always positive because melting involves overcoming some of the intermolecular attractions in the solid.
