Engine Tuning to Increase Power
The adjustment, modification or design of internal combustion engines to yield more power.
Some of the most common ways to increase the power output of an engine are:- Forced air induction
- Turbocharger
- Supercharger
- Increased capacity - most commonly achieved by increasing the bore and fitting larger pistons
- Increased valve lift
- Lower back pressure
- Larger exhaust pipe bore
- Removal of exhaust silencer baffles
- Tuned length intake and exhaust manifold
- Less restrictive air intake filter
- Reduced engine frictional losses
- Dry sump
- Lower friction big end bearings
