The amount of substance in a specified space.
- A measure of the amount of substance present in a unit amount of mixture. The amounts can be expressed as moles, masses, or volumes.
- The process of increasing the amount of substance in a given amount of mixture.
It can be expressed in a variety of ways:
- Weight percent
- Grams of solute per litre of solution is a common expression.
- Molar concentration - a solution is considered one molar (1 M) if it contains as many grams of solute per litre of solution as is the molecular weight of the solute.
Used in chemistry to describe a solution having a concentration of 1 gram equivalent per litre.
