Concentration
The amount of substance in a specified space.
- A measure of the amount of substance present in a unit amount of mixture. The amounts can be expressed as moles, masses, or volumes.
- The process of increasing the amount of substance in a given amount of mixture.
It can be expressed in a variety of ways:
- Weight percent
- Grams of solute per litre of solution is a common expression.
- Molar concentration - a solution is considered one molar (1 M) if it contains as many grams of solute per litre of solution as is the molecular weight of the solute.
