Buffer

Chemistry

A system capable of resisting changes in pH when small amounts of acid or base are added. Consists of a conjugate acid-base pair in which the ratio of proton acceptor to proton donor is near unity.

Computing

A memory location in a computer or digital instrument which is set aside for temporarily storing digital information while it is waiting to be processed.

Electronics

An isolating circuit used to prevent a driven circuit from influencing a driving circuit.
