Bremsstrahlung
X-rays emitted when a charged particle (such as an electron) is decelerated by passing through matter. The word bremsstrahlung is German for "braking radiation".
- where
- W = Energy radiated
- ω = Angular frequency
= Lorentz factor - Ze = ionic charge
- ε0 = permittivity of free space
- c = speed of light
- m = electronic mass
- b = distance of closest approach, collision parameter
- ν = electron velocity
- Κi = modified bessel functions of order i
- ω = Angular frequency
- The bremsstrahlung energy varies from 0 to the energy of the electron.
