Bacon, Francis (1561-1626)

An English natural philosopher, who reached his conclusions through the process of induction from facts, thus breaking away from contemporary scholasticism. He stated (1620) that experiments are of fundamental importance in acquiring scientific knowledge, since experiments enable us to establish causes that determine an occurrence and enable us to bring about such occurrences when we wish.
