Axial Compressor
Rotating airfoil based compressor in which the working fluid principally flows parallel to the axis of rotation.
Advantages
Most of the larger turbine engines use this type of compressor because of its ability to handle large volumes of airflow and high pressure ratio using a number of compressor stages.
Disadvantages
More susceptible to foreign object damage and expensive to manufacture , also heavy in comparison to the centrifugal compressor with the same compression ratio.
