Adcock Aerial

An Adcock aerial is a radio aerial system consisting of two vertical open-spaced dipoles with screened horizontal connections, separated by a distance of one-half wavelength or less, and connected in phase opposition to produce a radiation pattern having the shape of a figure eight.

It thus responds almost exclusively to the vertically polarised component of a received wave and is used for radio direction finding.
